APPROACH + PHILOSOPHY
Each body has individual needs with distinctive tightness patterns, imbalances, weaknesses, and injuries. Pilates is geniusly designed to be customized for your unique needs, challenges and goals. Essential movement patterns restore health and alignment for anyone who practices regularly (as experienced by millions and millions of people all over the world).
At heart, Temple Pilates is a classically-rooted, alignment-focused studio, teaching the method and philosophy as close to the original work of Joseph Pilates -- while at the same time, layering in variations of the work that have been evolved and expanded by master teachers around the world.
IN THE STUDIO
Temple Pilates Studio offers Pilates instruction for individuals and small groups. Located in midtown Ventura, the clean, modern and fully equipped studio offers classical Pilates apparatus including Cadillac, Ladder Barrel, Wunda Chairs, Reformers, Towers, smaller apparatus such as Spine Correctors, Small Barrels, Magic Circles, Foot Corrector, Toe Corrector and complementary tools like rollers, balls, straps, and bands.
Nicole Growdon (formerly Nicole Hawthorne), founder and principal instructor, is a classically trained and nationally certified Pilates instructor based in Ventura, California.
Like many others, Nicole discovered Pilates searching for relief from chronic pain and a way to safely move and restore her body after a series of injuries, pregnancy, surgeries and 20 years of deconditioning and misalignment from long days of corporate work and travel.
Nicole studied and practiced Pilates for more than a decade before teaching. After losing a close friend to breast cancer she realized the time had come to change her life and focus her energy on helping others improve their health and well being. She left her tenured corporate management position to study Pilates full time and achieve comprehensive certification as a classical Pilates teacher.
A graduate of the Equinox Pilates Teacher Training Institute, Nicole maintains a consistent self-practice and continues to study with a variety of master classical and contemporary Pilates teachers, as well as complementary movement and wellness modalities including Hatha / Iyengar Yoga, Yamuna Body Rolling and a variety fascia release techniques.

I greatly appreciate my students and view myself as a partner in their journey to good health, mastery of this beautiful work and the natural empowerment that comes from effectively learning how to develop and manage inherent strength, flexibility and alignment.
